So glad Safer Smarter Schools presses on consistent and shared language - key for SEL too!
Lesley Wilson
47:03
Pasco County Schools are proud to have Safer, Smarter Schools being used with our students :-)
Lindsey Merrick
50:04
Academics and SEL cannot exist independent of one another so I celebrate Pasco for integrating the two! It doesn’t have to be “just one more thing!”
Mara Schanfield - AIR
50:18
Thanks, Lindsey!
Lesley Wilson
50:37
Thank you Lindsey! Yes, we didn’t ever want it to be “just one more thing!”

Grateful for those sharing the resources. I came late. Is the recording going to be available.
Mara Schanfield - AIR
51:25
If SEL isn't one more thing on the plate... perhaps it IS the plate … thoughts?
Mindy Melito
51:49
I LOVE that it is the plate. I may steal...borrow that!!

Pause for the Cause: I'd like to learn more about Step 4, Pasco Practices. How did the school district coordinate the development and agreement upon this set of practices? About how long did it take? Who was involved? How often are they updated?
Lesley Wilson
51:58
Steal away Mindy!

I really appreciated how SEL was incorporated into the Lesson Planning process. This would really support teacher buy in.
Christina Coppola
53:16
Love the structure for planning, we have done something similar with some of our teams here but I love that you have so much available as far as standards and benchmarks to guide the work.
Mara Schanfield - AIR
53:18
@Tamara - thanks this is a great question. It took over a year to develop the 5 practices with grade-band permutations. It was done collaboratively with linked teams (teachers, admin, and district leadership) and based on the Concern's Based Adoption Model's Innovation Configuration tool
John C
53:31
I appreciated the use of the teachers to develop the process for embedding SEL practices in to lesson plans.
Mara Schanfield - AIR
53:39
@Christina - would be delighted to hear more about your work!
Mindy Melito
54:22
@Lesley - Do you have a lesson plan template that you use? If so, can you send a copy through the chat?
Mara Schanfield - AIR

The template and examples for lesson planning are super helpful. Would love to see more! Carolyn.santangelo@browardschools.com Thank you
Lesley Wilson
57:46
Hi Mindy! We do not have standardized lesson plan templates - what I demonstrated was the lesson breakdown from our teacher’s edition of our math curriculum.
Mara Schanfield - AIR

I think that the CHAMPS model could be aligned for student input by including students in the decision making for the activity. That would give them ownership.
Lesley Wilson
01:17:06
Thank you all for your feedback and willingness to share with us.
Lesley Wilson
01:19:26
I LOVE CHAMPS!!!
