With public schools returning to in-person learning, social workers and School Resource Officers (SROs) are seeing troubling trends likely exacerbated by the ongoing pandemic. Increased violence, frequent substance use, waning mental health – these evolving challenges are requiring social workers and SROs to take a more front-lines approach and to assess other contributing factors beyond COVID-19 – such as local and state policies, social media and home environments. Join us for an eye-opening discussion with seasoned SROs and school social workers as they share insider perspectives and their top insights for families.

1) Dr. Marcheley Adam is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Instructor. She has over 25 years of experience working with children, families and individuals as a clinician and consultant. Her professional experience includes providing support services to schools and community-based agencies. She is currently a Visiting Instructor of Social Work in the College of Social Work & Criminal Justice.

2) Officer Timothy Burton received a degree in Criminal Justice from Florida Atlantic University in 2005. He has been an officer with the Coral Springs Police Department since 2006. He is currently the SRO at Coral Glades High School.

3) Officer James Bostic graduated from Auburn University in 2003. He has been an officer with the Coral Springs Police Department since 2006. He is currently the SRO at Coral Springs High School.

4) Sergeant William Capplis received a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Sociology in 1991 and a master's degree in Criminal Justice Management in 2007. He was a probation and parole officer with the Florida Department of Corrections from 1993-2000 and joined the Coral Springs Police Department in July 2000.
